Lovers Lying

Two lovers lie, with no sheets on their bed, and the day it is breaking...

With a U2 lyric in mind and a gently romantic image of a pair of lovers in front of me, I went ahead with this painting.

This was made on my iPad, using the ArtRage app, which I've found to be far superior to other painting/ drawing apps for the iOS. With this one, you can control every minute detail of the piece, emulating realistic, organic tools. You can choose the texture or grain of your paper or canvas, the roughness of your brush and how much thinner is in your paint, you can even create metallic paints. The tool range is far more broad, including the ability to use a palette knife, paint straight from the tube, use a paint roller, you name it. I am so in love with this device and this program, seems only appropriate that I conjured this up for my first creation on it.

Best Sketches

Yesterday, I had to compile my 10 best quick sketches for a freelance opportunity... And here they are, some of my fave little sketches. All are 2-5 minutes, and with only two or three exceptions, all are from life.

Double Wattled Cassowary

More sketches of one of my favorite animals at the zoo- a double-wattled cassowary. It's like a living dino! So sweet. May color and update later.

Zoo Day!

Superbowl Sunday, but who needs football? Went to the Zoo with Trevor, Danielle, and Gina. After a satisfying morning at work, and an even more satisfying lunch of sushi, the zoo trip rounded it all out for a pretty perfect day. Despite the ridiculous traffic entering the damn place that is. I thought more people would be having bbqs or something on Superbowl Sunday.

I was pretty productive, and I feel I've improved since my Dynamic Sketching days. Gotta do this more often.

Princes Familiar

I've been revisiting a project of five years ago. Maybe the "reboot" trend has reached my art, but I felt that this project deserved a revival. I'm much more capable now of bringing my vision to life properly than I was when I first created this triptych.

Originally acrylic on wood panels, and now digital, the Princes Triptych is about the stages of falling in love.... what better time for this kind of a project than in the month of February? So far the first two panels are about finished, and I'm working on the third.

First, a small photo of the original piece:
